Last year me and my fiancé rescued a 3 month old puppy from the Animal Rescue League of Boston, and it was one of the best decisions I have made. Having a dog has taught me a lot in the past year, and I hope that there will be many more life lessons with my pup Nala. So what has being a dog mom taught me?
Patience Nala photobombs almost all of the pictures I try to take, she takes up my personal space and she gets into things that she shouldn’t sometimes (I have lost a few pairs of flip flops from her chewing them). She has definitely taught me to have patience and look at the bigger picture.
Organization Having a dog keeps me on a schedule. Since I have to make time to care for her, I have developed a specific schedule that I stick to so that I can get my work done and Nala can be content. I have less time to just sit around, which makes me more productive.
Loyalty I know that my dog loves me and would follow me anywhere, and so she has taught me the true meaning of loyalty. If I am sick, she comes and lays by me, if I am upset she comforts me. She is a true companion.
While it may not be feasible for everyone to have a dog (they are expensive and take a lot of work), if you do have pets, look to them for important life lessons.
